Race Prep Info

Make sure you read this and the rules of the race to help you be ready for race day. Our goal is to help you have the best race you can. Let us know if you have any questions.  

Look at the Aid station page for locations for all aid stations & starting line. We recommend crew putting the gps coordinates into navigation device before the race. You can save them with the name of each station, plus the start & finish line. This is a very easy way to follow your runner:

FRIDAY: Packet pick up location and pre race safety meeting: 

  • Mandatory for 100/50 solo runners & at least one person on the team relay: 

Packet pickup LOCATION:

Across the street from the Colona Fire Department

GPS coordinates: 41.477633, -90.359378

ARRIVE: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for packet pick up

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: 5:30 pm at Colona Grade School. It is across the street from packet pickup/100 mile and 50k finish line.

Friday night Drop Bag instructions:

Leave all drop bags on Friday at packet pre-race meeting. Please keep bags a reasonable size. 18 inches by 12 inches by 9 inches or smaller

Have them labeled with your full name/ race distance/ aid station they will be left at.

Then put them on the tarp with the station number listed. We will have signs by the tarp that let you know which station the bags will be dropped off at. Please read carefully and put your bag on the correct location.

Aid 4- mile 20.4

Aid 7/15- mile 32.1 first time through, mile 69, the second time

Aid 10/12- mile 47.1 & 54 mile finish line after an out and back

Aid 19- mile 88.1

100 mile finish line & 50 mile finish line

Drop bags will be delivered to finish line as aid station closes. Please pick up your drop bags at the finish line after the race.

***Any bags left behind will not be shipped back for at least 2 weeks after the race. We will need to charge for shipping.

Race Morning Special instructions:

We understand things happen & you miss the mandatory meeting: We will have bibs available for pick up race morning. You will need to sign a waiver that you did not make the mandatory pre-race meeting. We will have limited volunteers so please arrive early and be patient. We do not deliver drop bags to all aid stations from race starting line. See below.

Race morning drop bag pick up from the starting line-

We will have tarps and be able to deliver drop bags to these locations on race morning:

  1. 50 mile finish line (near aid 10/12)

  2. 100 mile finish line

Please have these drop bags marked with your name & aid station you want it left at. 

Race Buses:

Bus service is for runners parking at the finish line, and riding to the starting line.

100-mile runners are pick up across the street from Colona Fire Department area. This is where the 100 mile finish line is.

5:10 am sharp

50 mile runners from Lock 17 near Wyanet: Bus leaves at 5:10am sharp

Bus service is $10.00. You can add it at registration.

50k bus pickup: 4:00 pm from 50k finish line, across the street from Colona Fire department. Bus takes you to the starting line.

Race Start

Sinnissipi Park, Sterling, Illinois: 7:00 am 

>>>>Cars CAN NOT be left at the 100 mile/50 mile race start line in Sterling. The park gates close and cars may be towed.

Lodging Information

Camping, 50 & 100-milers
Camping is available at the 50 mile finish line, Lock 17, near Wyanet, Illinois, with bus service to the start in Sterling. Hundred mile runners can
camp at Colona Scott Family Park. This is three miles from the finish line and where the bus pick up is that will take you to the start line.

When you make your reservation be sure to tell the hotel that you are racing the Hennepin Hundred. This will be very helpful to show the state of Illinois the value of this great trail. The tourism department is keeping track of how many people visit. This helps much needed funds go towards trail improvements. Thank you!
